I didn’t have as much radio time as I usually do during July, but it still turned out to be a really fun and interesting month on the radios. 3-17 CAV at Hunter AAF continues to receive their new AH-64Es and they’ve been flying a lot as they transition their pilots to the new aircraft. Speaking of new aircraft, one of the new MH-53K test aircraft came through the Savannah area in July. The Coastal Georgia and Lowcountry South Carolina airspace was also visited by quite a rare visitor to the area: a RC-135V Rivet Joint. ATAC made one of their visits to MCAS Beaufort with their Hawker Hunter F.58s to work with VMFAT-501. There were a couple of interesting detachments during July: HMH-461 flew out of Hunter AAF for several days and some Valkyrie Aero A-27s worked out of Savannah-Hilton Head IAP for a few days. What really made the month interesting, however, were the foreign visitors: I heard aircraft from the Israeli Air Force (two IAF 737s are at Brunswick-Golden Isles Airport for service at Stambaugh Aviation, hearing them was a first for me), the Netherlands Air Force, the Philippines Air Force (another first for me), and the Polish Air Force.
