Visiting Brasstown Bald; 11 June 2021

The fifth stop of my North Georgia road trip was Brasstown Bald, the highest point in Georgia at 4,784 ft. The mountain is part of the Blue Ridge and Appalachian Mountains and is in Towns and Union Counties near Hiawassee. I was really looking forward to the view from the museum and observation tower on top of Brasstown Bald, but ended up being a bit disappointed – the top of the mountain was absolutely socked in with fog when I visited just before noon and it didn’t show any sign of burning off. It still turned out to be an interesting visit because I learned a lot from the museum and can now say I was on top of a mountain. It’s definitely on my “go back to” list because I really want to see the view in clear weather!

Visibility at the parking lot below Brasstown Bald’s museum and observation tower on the peak gave some indication of what things would be like at the top
It was very foggy at the top of Brasstown Bald, you couldn’t see very far at all; even around noon it didn’t seem to be going away
