A Visit to the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge

While visiting the Space Coast on vacation last week, I took the opportunity to visit the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge and its Black Point Wildlife Drive. It was a unique experience because I’ve never visited a mangrove swamp environment before. It gave me the chance to see Reddish Egrets and White Pelicans for the first time; Savannah and Brunswick are a little out of both birds’ ranges. The Black Point Wildlife Drive is about seven miles long and meanders throughout several different kinds of environments and provides the opportunity to see a wide variety of wildlife. It’s definitely a place to put on your itinerary if you’re visiting the Space Coast of Florida.
